What are the causes for seed Deterioration?

Not all seeds sowed sprout. There are some which just stays there. The Principal causes for seed Deterioration and ageing are the free radicals. By free radicals, we are referring to radicals with unpaired electron having just one electrical charge (+ve or -ve). The free radicals results in damage of the membrane systems. Once, the cell membrane is damaged, cell contents die out and once that happens seeds will start to deteriorate. If left unchecked, seeds will lose vigor, germination and finally die. It is to overcome this problem that the process of halogenation is undertaken. Halogenation process is patented by The Hitron Herbal Seed Coat.
